Amate: Love Yourself

Hearts Taking Care of Our Health

What Is The Amate Project?

For International Women’s Day 2025 Mujeres Movimiento (MM) held a fundraiser campaign in 2 parts: locally, the MM women created a wall of 100 painted hearts, all sponsored by the community and installed in the Matiz restaurant courtyard in Sayulita. Internationally, we sold 309 beautiful Amate paper hearts.

All the funds from the Amate Project 2025 were raised to support the health of local women. More specifically, the funds provided 21 local women with a blood test, gynecological exam, ultrasound, and mammogram. Since this was a first for almost all the women, the Mujeres’ Wellness Team hosted a 24-hour interactive retreat on women’s health issues and what to expect during the exams. After completing the retreat, MM provided transportation to and from the exams. The women went together in small groups, thereby providing each other with reassurance and emotional support.

Since the testing was completed, the Amate Project has provided ongoing support offering the women bi-monthly or as needed appointments with our wellness team to address any needed changes in diet, exercise regime, or emotional health.

We are looking forward to new growth and expansion for the Amate Project in 2026 and hope to have your continued support which makes this program possible.

November 2025 Updates

Over five months, 21 women from our community came together to learn, move, and grow. Through bi-monthly individual consultations with a nutritionist, physical therapist, and a psychologist, the women discovered that true wellness begins from within. They supported one another, celebrated small wins, and learned to see themselves as strong, capable, and deserving of good health.

Here we share just a few of the participants’ thoughts about the impact Amate has had on their lives.

"I am grateful to each of the specialists who were with me, supporting me; it was a great help personally. Every activity that took place was very helpful, and for me it was a very good experience in every way. I thank the specialists, the women behind each donation, for all their support. Thank you very much."

"My experience has been so pleasant that I wouldn't change anything. For me, everything has been great, very professional. I don't know if anything could be improved, at least for me, everything was excellent."

"I feel that the Amate project was very comprehensive and, for a new project, very well organized. I think the time spent with the professionals was good and well used; I wouldn't change a thing. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful project, to the sponsors and to the professionals for their support. I hope this is the beginning of something that will allow them to continue changing the lives of women in our community. THANK YOU SO MUCH.”

May 2025 Updates - The Retreat

On the last weekend of May, Mujeres Movimiento put The Amate Project in action with a wellness retreat for 21 local women at the beautiful Nomada Hotel in Sayulita.

The retreat was a transformative experience that catered to the unique health needs of each woman. Over the course of two days, participants enjoyed informative discussions on breast cancer awareness, nutrition, mental health, and physical well-being, all led by compassionate healthcare professionals.

Through communal workshops and movement classes, the women bonded over shared experiences and learned valuable skills to prioritize their health. With a focus on individualized care and comfort, our retreat provided a safe space for women to laugh, nourish their bodies, and cultivate gratitude.

Upon the retreat’s completion the local women reported feeling empowered, informed, and committed to their ongoing health and wellness journeys.
