Amate: Love Yourself

Hearts Taking Care of Our Health

What Is The Amate Project?

For International Women’s Day 2025 Mujeres Movimiento (MM) held a fundraiser campaign in 2 parts: locally, the MM women created a wall of 100 painted hearts, all sponsored by the community and installed in the Matiz restaurant courtyard in Sayulita. Internationally, we sold 309 beautiful Amate paper hearts.

All the funds from the Amate Project 2025 were raised to support the health of local women. More specifically, the funds provided 21 local women with a blood test, gynecological exam, ultrasound, and mammogram. Since this was a first for almost all the women, the Mujeres’ Wellness Team hosted a 24-hour interactive retreat on women’s health issues and what to expect during the exams. After completing the retreat, MM provided transportation to and from the exams. The women went together in small groups, thereby providing each other with reassurance and emotional support.

Since the testing was completed, the Amate Project has provided ongoing support offering the women bi-monthly or as needed appointments with our wellness team to address any needed changes in diet, exercise regime, or emotional health.

We are looking forward to new growth and expansion for the Amate Project in 2026 and hope to have your continued support which makes this program possible.

What’s New?

The Amate Project is Growing!

Looking forward to 2026

With the successful launch of Amate Mujeres Movimiento is motivated more than ever to provide support for local women’s health and wellness through this project. Our goal is to continue with the inaugural group of women and expand our reach to include a new group of 10 women in 2026.

What does this look like? The Amate Project will host an overnight retreat for the next group of women, providing health and wellness information and forging bonds between the women along with the wellness team for a community of trust and support as they begin their journey of self-care. The new group will receive full blood panel tests, gynecological exams, and mammograms, and the returning group of women will receive updated testing as needed. Access to the Mujeres Movimiento wellness team will also be offered to assist in the areas of nutrition, physical fitness, and mental health.

How can you support? We are excited to launch our new series of Amate paper artwork featuring a unique butterfly design created by long time friend and supporter of MM, Jay.

October updates

After more than 4 months, the Amate women came together again to share, listen, and embrace their individual journeys. The reunion was a day filled with laughter, self-love, and community, honoring each woman’s progress and fostering hope and inspiration for continued Amate in their lives.

This is Amate… a movement to heal, support, and grow together.

June Updates

Health tests and screenings are currently taking place! All 21 women of The Amate Project have completed their blood work and results are being read by Dr. Maria Quiroz who will work with our nutritionist Maria Jimenez to develop an individualized plan of action for each woman.

The women have been traveling together in smaller groups, still maintaining our supportive community, for their ultrasound, mammogram, and gynecological exams. All of these results are expected to be completed by mid-July.

May Updates - The Retreat

On the last weekend of May, Mujeres Movimiento put The Amate Project in action with a wellness retreat for 21 local women at the beautiful Nomada Hotel in Sayulita.

The retreat was a transformative experience that catered to the unique health needs of each woman. Over the course of two days, participants enjoyed informative discussions on breast cancer awareness, nutrition, mental health, and physical well-being, all led by compassionate healthcare professionals.

Through communal workshops and movement classes, the women bonded over shared experiences and learned valuable skills to prioritize their health. With a focus on individualized care and comfort, our retreat provided a safe space for women to laugh, nourish their bodies, and cultivate gratitude.

Upon the retreat’s completion the local women reported feeling empowered, informed, and committed to their ongoing health and wellness journeys.
